3 Powerful Questions to Unlock Your True Self
I’ve shared many times that the scariest thing ever said to me was …
“Adam, if I know more about you than you know about yourself, I can control you.”
I must admit that my initial thought to this statement was, “Okay. Big deal. Nobody knows more about me than me.”
But very quickly my arrogance turned to fear, “Wait . . . nobody knows more about me than me, right?”
And in that moment, I wanted absolute certainty that no one knew more about who I was, than myself. Because the last thing I want in my life is to be controlled, manipulated, or influenced without knowing it.
And ever since, I’ve dedicated my life to raising my self-awareness and helping others to do the same.
Self-awareness is so powerful that it’s the foundation of personal growth, allowing you to Rescue Your Dreams™ and transform your reality. The more you understand about who you are and what drives you, the better equipped you are to make meaningful changes in your life.
So, I’m giving you a challenge.
Over the next two weeks, I want you to explore three questions designed to help you dive deeper into who you truly are. These questions aren’t meant to be answered quickly. Take your time with them, reflect, and write out your thoughts.
You just might be surprised by what you discover.
QUESTION #1
What core values consistently guide my decisions?
You may have never given your values any thought.
But your values are the invisible forces that shape your life. Even when we aren’t thinking about them, they influence our decisions, relationships, and even our goals.
Your core values are like a life script. They’re non-negotiable. And you may even be willing to die for them.
Make time to reflect on some choices you’ve made recently. What patterns emerge? Do you prioritize honesty, security, connection, or something else?
By identifying these underlying values, you can be way more intentional about aligning your actions with who you truly are.
QUESTION #2
When I face setbacks or challenges, how do I typically respond?
Understanding how we respond to adversity is crucial for growth.
Without knowing this answer, you may be unintentionally holding yourself back from the life you want to live.
Take time to focus on challenges you’ve faced in the past and challenges you’re currently facing.
How do you tend to react?
Do you get frustrated, withdraw, or take action?
These responses reveal a lot about your emotional patterns and coping mechanisms. The key is not to judge yourself, but to recognize the underlying emotions that drive your behavior.
Then make a commitment to use this newfound awareness to respond more effectively the next time a challenge arises.
QUESTION #3
In what ways do I contribute positively to the lives of others?
Often, we overlook the unique qualities that allow us to make a difference in this world.
And it’s an easy thing to overlook, because although we all love getting positive attention, no one wants to talk about what they’re really good at and come off as bragging.
But this final question invites you to focus on your strengths, the positive impact you have on others, and the great qualities that make you uniquely you!
So, it’s time to get honest and recognize the things that make you awesome. And when you do, don’t be surprised when your sense of self-worth and purpose begin to shine.
So now what?
Raising your self-awareness doesn’t happen overnight.
As you explore these questions over the next two weeks, revisit them, and give yourself the grace to evolve.
Self-discovery is a wonderful lifelong journey. Let these questions guide you as you uncover deeper insights about yourself and make empowering shifts toward the life you really want.
And if you want to take each of these questions a bit deeper, ask your family, friends, partners, and colleagues, how they would answer each of these questions about you.
Take what they say as a gift and add their observations to your own reflections.
You may just start seeing yourself in a whole new light.
